Chum Kiu Preparation: 180° turning

Description:
- Starting from a neutral position, sink your weight into your heels and let your knees drop downwards
- Pivot on your heels as you turn your torso to the left; your arms should be in double lan sao position
- Pivot back 180° to the right, hands remaining in the same position
- Pivot back 180° to the left.

Details:
- Pivot point is the heels.
- Hips and shoulders should point 90° from the center at the end of each turn
- Feet should be parallel to each other, about 45° off the center
- Entire foot should remain in contact with the ground
- Knees should be bent, pointing in the same direction as the feet
Common mistakes:
- Turning on the balls of the feet
- Not turning the torso all the way
- Feet in the wrong position
- Knees not in (reduces stability and opens groin to kicks)

- Have the student try this at differing speeds.
