Siu Nin Tao: Tan Sao, Jum Sao, Gang Sao


53. Sweeping your wrist across the centerline, bring your tan sao up to eye height, elbow in, hand out.

54. Drop your hand back into the center

55. Sweep across the centerline into the high tan

56. Drop across the centerline until your hand is at the seam of your pants

57. Sweep back across the centerline into the high tan

Details:

  • Tan:
    cover the centerline first
    fingers as high and lateral as the shoulder

  • Jum:
    do not move the elbow as you convert to jum

  • Gang:
    cover the center line
    Wrist should be straight
  • Application:

  • Covering middle of body from straight line attacks by moving them off center.

    NOTE:
    There are two versions of this series in the Yip Man Family. One excludes the Gang Sao. Ours uses it.


  • 58. Start a huen sao while dropping your elbow and forearm

    60. Your forearm comes parallel to the ground, with the elbow a fist-length from your body

    61. Push forward, remembering not to extend your elbow joint all the way
    Finish with a huen sao and lap sao.
